Descansar a oposição

forget about it!
Its either Obama or Hillary man, get in the loop, in the groove, step outside the box, dont be square. ()

A little early, don’t you think? There is one year to go, yet…

1 yr in political time is NOTHING!…the economy is getting worst homes! It`s a countdown situation…
The champagne is chilling already…
Forget about it!
Throw the bloody dice!
We`re good to go! Man, we (liberals) want this fight! We REALLY DO! No more softie approaches. You want to see our fighting spirit? Wait. We make a samurai look like mother Theresa. eh ehe heh h e he eheh e h

1 year in political time is a lot… Countdown situation? I don’t think so. It’s not like the dems solutions of more taxing and more regulation bring us good memories…
Neo-cons, quem falou em Neo-cons?

What? R you going mental? (just joking)
Remember the years of prosperity, fiscal stability and international credibility of the Clinton Admin? Are these bad memories? The majority of Americans thinks not.
Much depends on how and what you tax? Look at the economic team of Madam Clinton. They like intelligent taxes. Nothing wrong with them, especially if they contribute to the greatest happiness of the greatest number and …naturally…to sustained economic growth.
Falamos depois!

“Remember the years of prosperity, fiscal stability and international credibility of the Clinton Administration?”
Yeah, I remember. Mostly the first two, because at the time, no one knew who George W Bush was. or what was he going to do. And at an economical level, of course there were not bad memories. On the contrary.
But you see, by then you had a Republican congress, with Gingrich as speaker, who pushed through an ambitious economic plan. Clinton did fix the budget and sign into law the tax reduction plan approved in congress, as well as the welfare reform. But is that a reason to support Hillary? Not a chance.
She is already criticizing him for these things and lot more of his good work. His FTA agreements are the latest of Mrs. Clinton critiques. She already wants to approve dozens of bills, increasing dramatically the federal budget, install Hillaycare again, and so on…
Intelligent taxes? Please, there is no such thing. And speaking of sustained economic growth, these last years weren’t so bad, were they? I know it must be hard to acknowledge, but the unemployment rate is at a record low. The rest of the things, yeah, a real mess. That’s why we need Rudy. He’s the only true fiscal conservative in the race, and we only need to check his record to know that.

What has happened to the middle class? Has it increased its purchasing power? And what about the lower classes? Do you want America to become a Brasil? (distribution of wealth) 15 million people (or more) without health coverage? (if you have diabetes, insurance companies will NOT insure you…and it is getting worst! )
To claim that Clinton`s economic and social prosperity was the result of Newt`s Contract with America is a gross misrepresentation. Only a few bills of the Contract were passed by Congress.

Health coverage is in fact a problem, but Hillarycare is definitely not the answer. It seems she didn’t learned her lesson, after the fiasco she conducted during her husband administration. Of all candidates, Giuliani is definitely the best. Not perfect, but he aims to the real issue at stake.
“Only a few bills of the Contract were passed by Congress.”
That’s not true. Almost the entire contract was approved.

That is what I meant by the homo economicus fetish.
Numbers have to mean something that is defensible and just. They can not, and ought not, be interpreted in isolation from their concrete effects. They are essential, abslutely vital. But they are not the only essential consideration. Numbers have to mean something socially.

lets see if my memory serves me right.
one moment, please.

“Most of the bills died in the Senate, except as noted below.”

Would you say this is a macro-economic plan for action?
The Contract was, in essence, a political manoeuver intended to mobilise the conservatives. It did not contemplate intricate economic policy questions.

Well, the wikipedia article isn’t precise because it also states that:
“However, most parts of the Contract eventually became law in some fashion and represented a dramatic departure from the legislative goals and priorities of previous Congresses.”
And if you see, most of bills were approved as the article describes. Many were changed however, due to negotiation with Clinton.

“The Contract was, in essence, a political manoeuver intended to mobilise the conservatives. It did not contemplate intricate economic policy questions.”
Yes, in part is true. But after the republican takeover of the congress, it yield several economical bills.

Precipitation is an expensive luxury in politics, dear Bruno. Some say it is a form of poisonous self-delusion.
December 5th, 2007 at 21:36
That were negotiated with President Clinton.
Good discussion. I must go and turn the bottle. One must be careful not to overspend.

I am often aflicted by this malaise(precipitation).
This was not a jab directed at you. It is mere self-reflection.
A pleasure, always.
We have to get this country (Lusitania) moving…forget the past! The future matters far more.
Would you not agree? (this is a bit cheeky…you do not have to answer..in fact, it is best if you do not answer…I do not wish to contribute to any malaise)
stay KOOL!

Why don´t you (atlântico) invite Prof. Robert Reich to visit Portugal??
Mr. Irwin Stelzer, a brilliant man, could be one of the participants in the debate with Reich.
Atlántico could do that. If you did, damn, I would visit Lisbon…I would move faster than the wind!! eh ehe
